Daily Distraction: It appears that in an ironic turn of events the mind-control machine itself is having its on-air personalities suddenly fall victim to its own effects. Not buying it? The highest paid actor on television, Judge Judy, also fell victim last week. Read more.

Daily Distraction: While I am the last person to advocate anything having to do with a leaf blower, STIHL, a manufacturer of such noise-making, useless items has went ahead and innovated something pretty spectacular, a self-tearing daily calendar.
I just hope they aren’t powered by the same gas engine the blowers are.

Daily Distraction: What you see above is Melbourne, Australia after a once-in-a-hundred year hail storm, which flooded streets, caused metro to literally get stuck in the water, and threw down golf-ball sized hail, not a scene from 2012.
Hit the click-through for more photos, straight from the Twittersphere.  But be extra careful out there, as Mother Nature genuinely seems pissed.

Daily Distraction: Yet another infographic to remind us of how consumed our country is with consumerism, good or bad.  This time, see where your place on the map falls in the Burger Wars spectrum.  From the looks of it, most of us live McDonald’s controlled territory, aside from the State of Sonic, Texas.
Personally, I seem to live in the small enclave of Jack in the Box resistance in Southern California.
How about you?

Daily Distraction: Have you ever felt bad about being unable to locate a state on the map?  Then you know exactly how CNN’s Rick Sanchez is feeling right about now.

PS - Those are the Galapagos Islands.  You know, where the turtles come from.

Daily Distraction:  The Census knows all, including where you shop for what.  And, unsurprisingly, people choose to purchase electronics online, and save their legal drugs for the drugstore.

Daily Distraction: With Mr. Toyoda coming to Washington for the obligatory Congressional shaming, many are wondering why the prince of the Japanese automotive company has a slightly different spelling of his last name than the company.
Well, the article linked above by the Washington Post clears all of that up, boiling it down to cultural superstition and numerology — a very interesting read.
Toyota requires only 8 brush strokes in Japanese, which is considered more favorable.  Additionally, Toyoda is extremely common, while Toyota references rice patties and fertility.

Daily Distraction: In the future, schools of robotic fish will scour the rivers and oceans of the world in order to seek out pollutants and learn more about fish culture. That future, my friends, is today.
The Robofish, pictured above, is a creation of the University of Essex, but DARPA is working on its own robotic sea creature, and it may very well have lasers and a rocket launcher attached.
We’ll have to wait and sea.

Daily Distraction: Straight from Sundance 2010, The S From Hell is a spoof on horror documentaries at large.  It takes an innocuous logo and midi and turns it into a haunting conspiracy against the youth of the 1960s.

Bravo!

Daily Distraction: Up for an Aircruse?  A company has dreamed up the above pictured transatlantic floating vessel, which could glide you from London to New York in 37 hours at 90mph.  Complete with a glass bottom viewing room, Aircruse might be the next best thing to wings.
